Renewing Your Mind

How pure are you?

If you have received Jesus as Savior, your spirit is even better than the 99.8 percent purity touted by Ivory soap. We’re talking totally, completely, one hundred percent pure. That took care of the inner atmosphere of Sin, removing it as far as the east is from the west.

So why don’t we feel pure all the time? It’s the old bugaboo called the soul (mind, will, emotions). That’s where all the emotional junk hangs out. And getting that soul pure is up to us. We mess it up by our sins, by our missing the mark—the literal translation for “sin”.

We also cause problems by hanging onto old lies, like I’m not good enough, or I’ve gone too far. Or the worst ever, I have to do this by myself.

Remember, God won’t do for us what we need to do for ourselves. But this isn’t the old saw of “God helps those who help themselves”. That phrase led to all sorts of performance oriented problems.

No, this is a simple case of choosing to obey. Simple, but not necessarily easy.

cross in handsSo what can we do? That instruction is in Rom 12:2  “And be not conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, in order to prove by you what is the good and pleasing and perfect will of God.” (LIT)

We have to renew our minds.

We have to reject the lies and false thinking that lead to depression and shame.

And we have to act according to the truth of who we are.

And how do we renew our minds? By listening to the source of all truth. Jesus. He is the only one who knows just where the lies are imbedded. But never fear—He is totally willing to show us if we are willing to ask.

Don’t try to do it all on your own!
