Anger at God, part 4: Am I the only one?
Monday, April 14, 2025 by CF Sherrow
Do you ever feel like you’re the only one who gets angry—downright furious with God? Does it seem like everybody else just blows it off?
Hey, you’re not alone. Some people do only get slightly perturbed. Maybe those are the ones who have only gone through slightly painful circumstances. But if your anger has been around for a long time, if it flares into rage and you really want to let Him have it . . . well, like I said, you’re not alone. And you’re not a rotten person, a hopeless sinner, or a lost cause.
You’re just wounded and broken. And you haven’t had an outlet for it.
There is a theory of creation called the Watchmaker. It opines that God created the universe, wound it up, and set it down to tick away on its own.
But God isn’t a distant Creator. He is a very real, very near person. He is the good Daddy.
He really does understand your need to rant and rave at Him for what has happened to you. After all, your parents or other authority figures wouldn’t allow it.
They didn’t understand your pain. God does.
He loves you. And you don’t have to take my word for it. I recommend you go to my “about” page and read about my experience of being baptized in His love. “Jehovah Sneaky” was in rare form that day.
Since God is a God of infinite variety, He probably won’t do the same thing for you. He’ll find something unique, something only you would appreciate and understand. He’ll show you His love in a special and intimate, individual way.
But you really should ask Him to. He enjoys the invitation.
I don’t know if people raise their hands in worship in your church. It is Biblical, as referenced by Psalm 134:2 and I Timothy 2:8. It’s a perfect image of a child reaching to be lifted up by her father.
Lift up your hands to your great heavenly Daddy. Ask Him to pick you up and hold you. Ask Him to reveal His love for you. That love will help relieve your anger. Keep your heart open to receive it.
And if you are afraid of His love, as I was, I can guarantee He will find a way. Maybe He’ll even have to be a little sneaky about it.
