Taking God for Granted

Ever felt like God left you in the lurch? When He simply disappeared, seemingly just when you need Him most?
We all have. Sometimes, it’s on us, like when we are willfully disobedient. But more often, it’s Him stepping back so He can woo us to a closer relationship with Him.
Just like a marriage relationship, or a good friendship, the close feelings can diminish and almost seem to disappear. They can diminish when we get lazy and don’t pay attention to our friend/ partner. They can also diminish when anger interferes. Worse, they can diminish when we take God for granted.
This is more common than one would think. Taking Him for granted is actually pretty easy. Say you have developed a bad habit, or even a sinful one. “Oh, God will forgive me,” you think. That is the truth. He is always forgiving because He is love. However, eventually, being in His presence can start to feel like sandpaper instead of deep comfort. Not a good place to be!
Pay attention to the inner changes. It’s up to us to follow His nudges, and to return to our position at His feet. Chances are, it will take some humility and recognition of our situation. But He waits for us to return; He yearns for it.
We are first and foremost, His children. His beloved ones. And His agape love is eternal.
