Part 8 of Strengthen Yourself in the Lord
Have you ever seen a cairn? (No, not the cute fuzzy terrier.)
You might have, though not recognized it for what it was.
A cairn is simply a pile of stones – tall or short, flat or towering. It is meant as a memorial. When the Israelites crossed over the Jordan river after the waters parted, Joshua instructed the people to gather stones and make a memorial of the event. When later generations saw the cairn in the middle of the river, the story would be told again to remind them of what God had done.
A testimony is like a cairn. People share what God has done in their life, retelling the story to give Him glory. And not just to give Him glory, but to encourage themselves: what God has done before, He can and will do again. He is in the business of miracles, large and small!
In the Bible, the word remember means more than to give something a passing thought. It can also mean to relive the event, to give it all the weighty due it deserves. Your faith grows every time you relive the events, reminding yourself of the goodness of God.
So, remember what God has done in your life. Raise a memorial. Share it. Re-enact it if you are so inclined.
By doing so, you strengthen yourself (and others) in the Lord.
