What about Prophetic Words?

Leaves changing color, a nip in the air: fall is just around the corner! Time for a new blog series.

What do you do with books you’ve already read? Do you give them to friends? Donate to charity? I tend to keep them, especially if I read them and felt they had more to teach me at a later time.

Anyway, I recently had a serious lack of reading material in my house, so I perused my shelves. And I found something I was looking for – though I didn’t really know it at the time. This book is by Bill Johnson (Bethel) and is titled, “Strengthen Yourself in the Lord: How to release the hidden power of God”. I am learning a lot, and will share some of it with you over the next several weeks.

Here goes!

Have you ever had a prophetic word spoken over you? What did you do with it? Did you try to make it come true?

David was prophesied over by Samuel; the message was that he would be king. But in the years (!) that it took the prophecy to come about, David had to grow, had to learn, had to fight. He had to defend himself against the current king Saul, who feared this young upstart would take his place. He had to learn how to lead others appropriately.

This shepherd boy had to develop kingly qualities.

I remember a powerful prophecy spoken over me when I was about 40 years old. The prophet spoke accurately about my past and then said that I was going to bring incredible healing to people despite my traumatic history. I was stunned, and it showed. After the service, he suggested I sit down before I fell down. Whoa!

Did I know the extent or purpose of what I had been told? Not a bit. I went home and transcribed it, then I put it away. And I started on a healing journey five years later. During that journey, I healed, I learned, and I grew into the person who would bring “incredible healing” to others. I never tried to force manifestation of the prophecy. Frankly, I forgot all about it during the struggle.

But now I understand. My memoir is bringing healing to readers. A common comment goes like this: “Thank you for writing this book. Now I know I’m not crazy!” God is fulfilling His word over me, bit by bit.

And it’s only taken 25 years.
