What is Your Destiny?

Welcome to the second installment of this blog series based on “Strengthen Yourself in the Lord” by Bill Johnson. The first chapter was titled, “The Secret to David’s Promotion.”
Today’s blog starts in chapter two, “Staying Connected to Your Destiny.” It can sometimes be hard to know what to pay attention to since there are so many tasks and responsibilities coming at us. Johnson says, “My job is to trust my heavenly Father with the problems and situations I don’t understand, and focus on stewarding my will to what I know to be true.”
Have you ever over-committed yourself and then wondered how you got into such a mess? We all have. I’ve been proud of my ability to say “no” in the past, but a few months ago I ran myself into the ground with overcommitment. The thing was, all of the things I agreed to do were good. They promoted my writing and I knew they were necessary. But once I relaxed, I got really sick and am still paying the price.
Now that I was sick, I asked God about some training I had signed up for. I wondered if I had missed His direction through my own stubbornness. Soon I felt His reassurance that I was supposed to take that course, it was just bad timing--so for now it’s on hold. As they say, a miss is as good as a mile.
My destiny is clear to me. The path is open. It’s just a matter of patience and good stewardship of the gifts, knowledge, and wisdom He has lavishly provided, according to Eph 1:8.
We don’t have to impress Him with our multitasking. We don’t have to take on more than He has asked. To do so gets us closer to the point of depending not on His strength, but on our own. And that’s not a very good place to be. All of us have the strength of God available to us.
We just have to ask.
